Description
Townsend Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1662, located in Carhampton Village. The building was refenestrated in the early 19th century and reroofed in the late 19th century. It features roughcast over rubble with a slate roof that has overhanging eaves and sprockets. Brick stacks rise from halfway up the eaves at the gable ends. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a long range. It has early 19th-century leaded iron casements, some of which have quadrant stays. The first floor has four 3-light windows, while the ground floor has three 4-light windows. There are two entrances with segmental-headed openings that include fanlights; a panelled door is on the left and a studded door is on the right. A date stone inscribed '1662 IM' is located at the centre below the eaves. The interior has not been seen, but it is assumed that the farmhouse was divided into two dwellings in the early 19th century.
