Description

Blundell's Farmhouse is a farmhouse, barn, and dairy that have been converted into a single dwelling. The original farmhouse dates back to the 16th century and was altered and enlarged, likely in the mid-18th century. The barn and dairy are also probably from the 18th century, with modifications made in the mid to late 20th century. The building features roughcast over rubble, and possibly some cob, with single Roman tiled roofs. The farmhouse has a hipped roof on the west side facing the road, with brick stacks at the west end to the left of the axial cross passage, and another inserted at eaves level in the left end bay near the entrance.

The layout of the farmhouse is likely a three-cell design with a cross passage, oriented east-west. The west gable end has been extended under the hipped roof to accommodate an outbuilding, while the east end may have been rebuilt. Internally, the farmhouse has been altered to create four cells and is linked on the west front to the barn, with an abutting dairy beyond.

The north front of the farmhouse is two stories high with a long four-bay facade. All windows are 20th-century three-light casements, except for a small two-light chamfered stair window. There is a 20th-century plank door. The west-facing front has irregular fenestration in two bays of the farmhouse, and a pantile-roofed bay with a door that links to an independently roofed threshing barn, which features a shallow porch and many-paned windows added in the 20th century. There is also a lower, independently roofed two-story block with a brick stack, which is believed to have been the dairy before the conversion, featuring 20th-century casements and a central 20th-century door.

Inside the farmhouse, some features are partially visible, including the remains of a winder stair to the right of the west gable end, a steeply chamfered beam with step and run-out stops, and a chamfered wooden lintel over the cross passage fireplace, which has inserted moulded stone impost blocks on the jambs, dating before the 19th century.
