Description

Wedmore Baptist Church is likely from the early 19th century. The church has roughcast exterior walls, a double Roman tile roof with a ridge running perpendicular to the gabled front, and a coping. A further double Roman tile roof with a coped verge and a small brick stack is present on the attached schoolroom. A distinctive onion finial sits atop the rear gable.

The church’s design is in the Gothick style. The front, which is a single bay, features a large, pointed arch window with cast-iron tracery forming five lights, accompanied by smaller diamond-paned windows below. The right return side of the church mirrors this style, but with two bays. Portions of the original cast-iron glazing have been removed from the windows and replaced with 20th-century casements. A four-centred arch doorway is located on the right return side; it features paired doors, each with a pointed head panel, an emphasised keystone, and impost molding.

The schoolroom, situated at a right angle to the right return, is two stories high and has two bays. It has 16-pane sash windows and a 4-panelled door to the left.

Inside the church, several small stained glass panels are incorporated into the diamond-paned windows. A later lean-to addition to the left return is not considered part of the listed building.
