Description
This is a house located at 36 High Street, likely built in the 17th century, with alterations made around 1800 and 1860. The exterior features incised stucco and a thatched roof that extends continuously with the adjacent Chard Museum on the right. There is a brick gable end stack on the right side. The house has a single-depth plan that is three rooms wide and stands two storeys tall, with a three-window range. The central entrance has an early 19th-century doorcase and a six-panel door. To the left, there is an early 19th-century fixed casement window that has four panes wide and three panes high, with one upper pane that opens. On the right side, there are two two-pane sash windows on the first floor, featuring flat-headed architraves and frames that are set forward, with all but the right ground floor window having horns. The ground floor windows have 20th-century shutters.
Inside, there are some chamfered beams on the ground floor, along with a staircase and doors that date from around 1800.
