Description
Thatchover is a detached cottage with origins dating back to the 17th century. It is constructed from local lias stone, which is rendered and colourwashed, and features a thatched roof with a coped north gable. The cottage has rendered chimney stacks topped with ornate 19th-century white fire clay pots. It is a single-storey building with attics and consists of three bays. The windows are casements of uncertain date, featuring diamond leaded panes, with a three-light window below and a two-light window above, the latter set into the thatch. Between the first and second bays, there is a part-glazed door made of 20th-century timber, accompanied by a glazed and thatched porch. There are 20th-century additions to the rear of the building. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to contain a massive fireplace with a moulded cambered-arched beam, an oven, and a spice cupboard, as well as a stone newel stair and several stop-chamfered beams.
