Description
Burts is a detached house dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings. The roof is covered with triple roll clay tiles and features plain gables. There are two chimney stacks, one made of brick and the other of stone, located at each end of the house.
The building has two storeys and an irregular three-bay arrangement of windows. The small-pane casement windows are set in the surrounds of former mullioned windows, although the mullions have been removed, leaving the labels intact. There is a boarded door located in a deep recess in the second bay. On the west gable, there are remains of a blocked two-light mullioned window, indicating that the roofline was once higher. A single-storey garage is attached to the west gable.
The interior has not been seen, but it has been reported to contain deep chamfered beams with step and run-out stops, wide stone fireplaces with chamfered lintels, and two stone spiral staircases.
