Description
Lower Knole Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse that was reshaped around 1840. It is built from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, and features a Welsh slate roof with gable overhangs, which may have been raised from an earlier roof. The farmhouse has brick end chimney stacks. The west elevation is two storeys high and has two bays. It includes casement windows, some of which have crown glass panes, with timber lintels above and deep stone lintels below. Between the bays is a six-flush-panel door with glazed toplights set in a recess. Extending eastwards from the rear are a range of buildings, both two-storey and single-storey, some of which may date back to the 18th century. The interior has not been seen. This farmhouse is one of several that were reshaped in the 1840s by Lord Ilchester to promote local dairy farming.
