Description

No. 28 Vine House and two cottages to the rear is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with two 19th-century cottages. The building is finished in painted roughcast and has a slate roof with stepped coping on the left gable end. The rear extension features pantiles and rendered stacks. The structure has a single-depth plan with a rear outshut and two cottages located to the rear right.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a four-window range. The window on the far right is above a carriage entrance, while the rest of the house is symmetrical with a central hall. The 18th-century door has raised-and-fielded lower panels and was altered in the 19th century to include two long glazed panels above. There is a planked carriage door to the far right. All windows are 19th-century three-light casements with glazing bars, except for two-light casements over both doors; the one above the house door is early 20th-century and lacks glazing bars on the lower half.

At the rear, there are two two-storey cottages, each with a one-window range. The cottage on the left, closest to the house, is early 19th-century and features 8/8-pane sashes, while the cottage on the right is later 19th-century with 2/2-pane sashes.

Inside the farmhouse, the left room contains an early 18th-century fireplace surround with a mantelshelf. To the left of the fireplace is a fitted cupboard in a semi-circular arch with a moulded wood keystone. The top cupboard has two doors with raised-and-fielded panels shaped to fit the arch, and the central rail includes three small deep drawers along with a two-door cupboard below, also with raised-and-fielded panels. To the right, there is a full-height cupboard with raised-and-fielded panels and H-hinges. Substantial beams run parallel to the facade, and the staircase at the rear features turned balusters and bracketed treads.
