Description
Broom Lodge is a lodge house from the early 19th century, likely modified by James or Jeffry Wyatt, who later became known as Sir Jeffry Wyattville. The building is constructed from Ham stone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof with a shallow pitch between moulded coped gables, along with rendered chimney stacks. It is a single-storey structure, possibly with only two rooms. The east elevation, which faces the drive leading to Hinton House, is made of rusticated ashlar and includes a segmental-arched recess that is now blocked, with a 20th-century window and a timber panel beneath, possibly where a former doorway existed. The south wall has casement windows, and there are lean-to extensions, including a glazed porch on the north side. The interior has not been seen. The lodge was presumably built to control access at the main gate of Hinton House after a new entrance was created in 1766 and before the completion of landscaping in 1817.
