House, in row, possibly once 2 houses. Late C17 and later. Rendered and colourwashed with stone dressings, Welsh slate roof, brick chimney stacks. EXTERIOR: 2 storey elevation continuous with that of No.3 (qv) to left, but with internal alterations resulting in external appearance of 2 storeys and attic on left and 3 storeys on right. Ground floor has plain sash to left and 12-pane sash (4 panes wide) to right, and between them a part-glazed C19 door with plain rendered surround and flat cornice. First floor has an adapted ovolo-mould stone mullioned window with hoodmould, formerly 3-light, now two-light and deepened, with horizontal bar casements inserted, and to right a 20-pane sash. Second floor has, on left a gable with 2-light wood casement in an ovolo-mould surround with label, and on right a small 2-light casement flanked by two 4-pane sash windows. There is a raised coped verge to the centre of the roof, left of the doorway, and to the right-hand end, and brick stacks at each party wall. INTERIOR: not inspected, probably of interest. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: extending from front of house and enclosing the front garden are railings on a low plinth, the rails having necked tops and the standards cast-iron urn heads, with gate opposite the door, adding to the setting of the house and the streetscape generally. The property backs onto Nos 17 and 19 Market Place (qv).
