Description

The milking parlour, located 10 metres south-west of Lower Cockhill Farmhouse, dates from around 1400. It is constructed from roughly cut and squared Cary stone and features a corrugated iron roof. The building is single storey with an inserted floor at the north end and consists of four bays. On the road front, there are two blocked window openings and a blocked doorway, which has a heavy frame with part-shouldered posts that likely supported a pair of large doors. The south end is made of rendered block construction and has timber weatherboard cladding on the gable. Inside, the parlour showcases smooth-curved open cruck trusses, a saddle apex with a square set ridge, tenoned cambered collars, trenched purlins, and empty mortices that suggest the presence of former windbraces.
