Description
Dimmer Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1726 and 1767. It is constructed of Cary stone rubble with a Welsh slate roof on the main wing and double Roman clay tiles on the return wing, both featuring coped gables and brick chimney stacks. The building has an 'L'-shaped plan and is two storeys high. The north-west elevation has three bays, with the third bay being a forward projecting wing. It features casement windows in several patterns, including a 18th-century leaded casement in the upper bay of the first section. There is a small rendered porch with a slate lean-to roof and a late 20th-century door at the lower bay 2. The return wing has five bays, including a straight joint, and contains three blocked doorways. The upper bay 3 has another 18th-century leaded casement, and there is a datestone from 1726 in the gable.
The south-east elevation has four bays with 20th-century casement windows, but it retains an old boarded door with an ashlar surround and a small flat moulded hood, along with a datestone over M/EH/1767. The farmhouse has a through passage plan; until recent years, a public footpath ran through the house. Inside, there is an old oven that is boarded up in the north gable wall, and one stop-chamfered crossbeam with a step and run-out stops.
