Description
The gatepiers and walls along the street at King's College were built around the same time as the main school buildings, between 1867 and 1869. There is a pair of tall gatepiers at the main north entrance to the school grounds, constructed from rubble with ashlar dressings. The gatepiers feature steeply pitched tops with a finial motif and recessed cusped details on the triangular outer faces. Decorative shafts rise through a stringcourse at the corners of the main piers. The wall extends out to the left and right from each gatepier, standing approximately 2 feet high with taller divisions at regular intervals. The wall is made of sandstone rubble topped with ashlar cappings. King's College, along with the gatepiers and walls, forms a cohesive group.
