Description

Pepperhill Cottage and Pepperhill Farmhouse, which includes an attached former dairy, were built in 1859 by Henry Clutton for Henry Labouchere, the 1st Lord Taunton. The farmhouse is now divided into two dwellings and features a main structure made of random rubble with dressed quoins and a tile roof. It has three large brick chimney stacks, one of which is roughcast. The architectural style is Tudoresque, with two storeys and a symmetrical facade comprising two sets of two bays. The windows are chamfered stone-mullioned, with configurations of two, three, and four lights, and are fitted with casements. There is a plank door situated between the bay sets, leading to a porch that has a hipped roof supported by four substantial wooden pillars with brackets. To the right of the farmhouse, there is a loggia that connects to the octagonal ashlar dairy, which features an octopartite tile roof, wide bracketed eaves, and a large wooden finial. Each alternating face of the dairy has a two-light stone-mullioned window.
