Description
Stolford Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating to the late 16th and early 17th centuries, with later 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of colourwashed random rubble, with a slate roof, coped verges, and brick stacks located at the right gable end and on the left cross passage wall. The original plan comprised three cells and a cross passage facing south, with a stair turret incorporated into an outshot at the rear.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has four bays. The first floor on the left has a 2-light casement window with a wooden lintel, while the other first-floor windows are 20th-century metal casements. The ground floor features a small 2-light window on the left, and 3-light casements flanking a 20th-century plank front door. The rear elevation retains a 17th-century four-light window with ovolo moulded mullions and leaded casements to the right of the entrance (now visible on the north rear facade).
Inside, the kitchen to the right of the cross passage has a four-centred arch leading to the stair turret. To the left of the cross passage is a fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel and chamfered stone jambs, alongside a spice cupboard. The room also contains steeply chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. An outer room, now a workshop with a separate entrance, was not inspected.
