Description

This is an 18th-century cottage, with an earlier origin in the 17th century, located in Stogursey, Somerset. It was enlarged in 1708 and further altered and extended in the mid-20th century. The exterior is roughcast over random rubble, with a double Roman tile roof and external stacks; the left gable has a brick stack, and the right gable ends are rendered with a brick top. The building originally had a two-cell plan, and was subsequently enlarged by a single cell to the west, along with a single-storey addition to the southwest corner, and a rear outshot added in the 20th century. The facade features dormers and ground-floor windows with metal casements. A plaque inscribed "RB.R2 1708" is visible on the front.

Inside, the cottage retains steeply chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, a fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel, and a staircase bay in the roof. Despite extensive alterations, the core of a 17th-century fisherman’s cottage remains.
