Description
D'Arches is a house that dates back to the 17th century, with possible earlier origins, and has undergone extensive alterations in the mid-20th century. It features roughcast over random rubble and a pantiled roof, with brick stacks at the gable ends and centre right. The layout consists of three cells and a cross passage, with 20th-century additions at the rear. The north facade now serves as the entrance front, while the south front has one and a half storeys and four bays. It includes gabled dormers with 20th-century three-light metal casements and 20th-century two-light casements below. The entrance is located centre left and features a 20th-century plank door. The right side of the facade has two bays that break forward slightly. Inside, there are chamfered beams with stops, an inner rood chamfered lintel above the fireplace, and an outer rook with a four-centred arch head leading to the stone window stairs. The fireplace has been removed, but one pair of jointed crucks and one pair of principal rafters are visible. It is possible that this building was originally an open hall house.
