Description
The Old Smoke House is a house that was formerly a cottage and separate shop, likely dating from the 17th century but now significantly altered. It is constructed from local stone that is cut and squared, laid in a random coursed manner, and has been patched in places. The roof is covered with concrete tiles that have plain verges, and there are modern brick chimney stacks. The building is two stories high and has four bays. The entrance is located between the first and second bays and features a part-glazed door from the 1970s, topped with an old wooden lintel. The windows are small-paned casements from the 1970s, set in a variety of plain openings. The interior has also been much modified, but it is notable for its unusual first-floor bacon curing chamber from the 17th century.
