Description
Herne Cottage is an 18th-century cottage constructed from locally sourced stone that has been cut and squared, featuring near ashlar quoins and a thatched roof with plain verges. It has a central brick chimney stack and is a single-storey building with an attic. The southeast elevation consists of six bays. The entrance doorway is located under a thatched porch in bay one. Bays two and three have 20th-century small pane casements, while bay four features a three-light plain casement window. Bay five contains a boarded door in a heavy frame, and bay six has a two-light casement window, all of which are topped with exposed timber lintels. Above bays three and four, there are small casement windows set into the thatch. To the northeast, there is a one-storey return wing. The rear elevation has 18th-century windows with rectangular leaded lights set into the thatch, as well as a small angled bay window with a stepped lead roof, which may date from the 19th century. The interior has not been seen.
