Description

Apple Hay is a detached farmhouse dated 1747 and has been modified over time. It features ham stone ashlar construction with a steeply pitched Welsh slate roof and plain bargeboarded gables, along with brick chimney stacks at each end. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has an east elevation that faces the road, consisting of three bays.

The farmhouse has a plinth and hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in chamfered surrounds, with all windows being three-light except for the upper bay two, which is two-light. Continuous labels run above both levels, with the lower level featuring a central doorway that has a lower camber arch. In the north gable, there is a two-light attic window without a label. A later outshut has been added along the west side, mostly fitted with 20th-century casement windows that have brick surrounds, but it also incorporates one three-light mullioned window, which is presumably reused. The interior has not been seen. The farmhouse was previously known as Jubilee Farmhouse, as noted in the Victoria County History, Volume III, published in 1974.
