Description
The terminus stone, likely from the early 19th century, is made of sandstone and features a cast iron plaque that is bolted onto it. The stone has a cambered head and stands about 450 mm high. The plaque is shaped and inscribed with the words: "Here ends the Taunton Trust." This stone marks the limit of the Taunton Turnpike Trust's responsibility along the road from Taunton to Elworthy, which operated from 1752 to 1875. It is a rare example of a terminus stone.
