Description

The Church of the Holy Trinity, built in 1837 and designed by architect E E Goodridge, is a Grade II* listed building in the style of Commissioners' Gothic. It features a stone construction with an ashlar west front, a battered plinth, and a chamfered string at the height of the door impost. The gabled front has moulded coping and a cross, with a tall Early English-style lancet triple window above low triple doors that have gables over them. There are slight breaks to the sides beneath heavy spirelets. The church has a five-bay vessel with a slight projection to the north-west for the Sanctuary and a gabled transept Chapel to the north-east, which is the liturgical south. Inside, the side windows contain glass by Morris and Co, featuring work by Burne-Jones and largely painted by Bowman from the 1880s to 1921. The east window was created by the local firm Howard Bros in 1875.
