Description
Lush, the butchers, and the attached house is a house and shop likely built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from Cary stone near-ashlar and features a plain clay tile roof with a coped gable on the west side and an abutment on the east. The building has two storeys with attics and consists of three bays.
In the first bay, there is a two-storey angled bay window with 2+6+2-pane sashes under a lead flat roof. The second bay contains a 12-pane sash window above and paired similar windows on both levels of the third bay, all set in voussoired flat-arched openings. The lower part of bay two features a glazed door framed by an architrave with a pediment hood supported by console brackets. Late 20th-century hipped dormer windows are present in each bay.
Although the interior has not been seen, there are cast-iron railings one metre in front of the building. These consist of three horizontal rods supported by cast posts spaced about one metre apart, with a gap for the doorway and a return at the east end. This railing adds to the building's setting and contributes to the important streetscape.
