Stable Block About 100 Metres East Of Henlade House

The stable block located about 100 metres east of Henlade House dates from 1872 and has been partly converted into a dwelling, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The exterior is made of red brick, featuring a squared and coursed blue lias plinth at the front, while the interior consists of buff bricks. The roofs are decorated with patterned clay tiles, featuring both hipped and gabled designs, as well as a bell-cast pyramid tower roof and overhanging eaves with sprockets.

The stable block has a courtyard plan, with the site sloping down to the north. The entrance tower and gateway are located on the west front, which includes open cart sheds on the south side, a loft above the carriage house on the east side, and accommodation on the north-east side. The north-west side, which is now a dwelling, likely contained stalls, while the west front features a layout of three bays, one bay, and two bays.

The central entrance tower is flanked by set-back buttresses and features a clock in the gabled attic opening, with similar louvred returns. Below a continuous string course dated 1872, there is a central coat of arms for the Anderdon family, along with roundels inscribed with "IEA" and "IHA". The entrance has a moulded four-centred arch opening with a decorative hoodmould and terminals, double doors with decorative hinges, and a wicket gate. Above the string course, there are irregularly placed paired openings on the left and right, with a 20th-century window in the left end bay.

On the east side, which faces the road, there is a small single bay gable end on the left and a two-storey over basement gable end on the right. The centre features a gabled loft opening with a hoist and a decorative apron below that extends to the lias plinth. The brick detailing throughout includes continuous string courses, moulded lintels, and labels.
