Description
The Ames monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, 5 meters south of the organ chamber of the Church of St. Aldhelm. It features the earliest inscription dating from 1700, along with a restoration inscription from 1869, dedicated to the Ames family. The monument is made of dressed stone and has an oblong shape resting on a moulded plinth. Each face of the tomb has inscription panels surrounded by bolection-moulded surrounds. The top is a stepped hipped slab with a moulded lower edge, and there are inscriptions on the north and south sides.
