Description

Heathfield Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse, likely an enlargement of an earlier dwelling. The farmhouse has roughcast walls, a slate roof with coped verges, and brick stacks at the gable ends. It is arranged in a T-shape with two storeys and four bays. It features 12-pane sash windows, and a string course breaks the facade at the centre where the entrance is located. A 19th-century hipped slate roof porch, supported by concrete piers, provides access through a panelled door with inserted lights. A buttressed right return and a rear wing with plain tile and triple Roman tile roofing are also present, along with 20th-century window openings. The interior of the farmhouse was not inspected. A brick wall, roughly 1.25 metres high, encloses the forecourt, sloping downwards from the house. The wall is punctuated by brick piers with pyramid tops and moulded plinths, supporting a cast iron gate with spearhead uprights, which was in poor condition when surveyed in March 1984.
