Description
The Crown Inn is a 17th-century inn that has been altered and enlarged in the mid-20th century. It is rendered over rubble with a thatched roof and brick stacks at the gable ends. The building likely originally had a three-cell plan with a cross passage. It stands one and a half storeys high and has three bays. The windows are 20th-century two- and three-light casements. The left side of the first floor features a roof that sweeps down as a catslide over an unlit projection, with two windows below the eaves. The roof continues down to the gable of a porch, and there is an eyebrow dormer on the right. To the right, there is a single-storey addition at ground level, and the entrance is located centre right, featuring a gabled thatched porch and a plant door. The interior has been extensively altered, but some stop-chamfered beams with enriched stops remain. Originally, the road to Creech St Michael ran in front of the building, but it now runs about a quarter of a mile to the west.
