Description
No. 43 High Street is a large house, likely dating from around 1700, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The building has two storeys plus an attic and features a long stucco front. It has a slate roof with a cornice and parapet, and the corners are accentuated with chamfered quoins and a plinth. The front has four windows, each set in moulded surrounds with keystones and aprons, featuring sashes with thin glazing bars. Above the doorway, there is a splayed oriel window with three lights and an ogee curve to the corbel. The doorway itself is framed by slender Tuscan pilasters and contains a six-panel door topped by a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. To the left of the front is a carriage arch with a segmental head and keystone, leading to double doors, each with six panels. Adjacent to this is a small doorway with a moulded architrave and deep voussoirs at the head, also featuring a six-panel door. Nos. 41 and 43 form a group.
