Description
This is a 17th-century barn located approximately 30 metres southeast of Great House Farmhouse. It is a five-bay timber-framed structure built on a low rubble plinth, with a weatherboarded exterior, except for the southwest elevation which is clad in corrugated iron. The northeast elevation retains some early boards that are wider than the others. The roof is a step-pitched hipped design covered with Bridgwater tiles, featuring a catslide over a later aisle at the rear.
Inside, the barn has four open collar beam trusses that rise from wall posts, with bracing and later inserted tie beams. The trenched purlins include wind bracing, and there is a centre post in each bay that is tenoned into the sills and wall plates, each supported by braces. There are broad entrances located at the northeast end and the southwest corner.
