Description

Dunpole Farmhouse and the attached farm buildings date from the early 18th century and mid 19th century. The farmhouse is built from ham stone rubble and features plain clay tiled roofs, some with coped gables and half hips, along with brick chimney stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high, with a five-bay north elevation that includes a half-hipped gable at the first bay. The windows are mostly casements with three lights and horizontal bars. The first bay has a projecting porch with a three-centre arched outer opening that is brick lined, and there is another doorway in a lean-to porch at bay four. The south elevation matches the north, featuring a projecting crosswing at bay five, which may be the 18th-century part of the building, and it has a broad brick chimney stack. The interior has not been seen. Attached to the north gable is a two-storey stable wing with a hipped roof, which includes an upper loft accessed by a steep timber ladder stair with siderails, a stable door, and simple two-light casement windows on each level. Further north, there is a single-storey building with a hipped Welsh slate roof, a single casement window, and a wide door with toplights above. Records indicate that the farmstead has existed since at least 1715.
