Description
Sherwood is a house with a core dating from the 16th century and extended in the mid-18th century. It features Flemish bond brick and cob construction, with some areas finished in smooth render and others in roughcast, topped with tile roofs and single coped verges, along with brick stacks. The building has an irregular U-shaped frontage that encloses a cobbled forecourt. It is two storeys high with attics, comprising four bays in the center and two bays in each of the left and right wings. Windows are primarily located on the first floor, with the right wing showing traces of blocked ground floor windows. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, flush mounted, and have exposed sash boxes, along with one two-light casement on the first floor. There are two door openings: a half-glazed door in the center and a three-quarter glazed door in the right wing, both featuring hoods supported by scrolled wrought-iron brackets. The returns and rear of the building maintain a similar style. Inside, the right wing has a plaster frieze on the ground floor, a fireplace with an ornamental chimneypiece, and some rooms include window shutters.
