Description
Dower House is a house that was formerly part of a rectory, built around the mid to late 19th century, which involved the rebuilding of an earlier structure. There is also a late 20th-century extension. The house is constructed from plastered stone, featuring rusticated quoins and bands, with slate roofs that have gabled ends and brick stacks with cornices.
The Dower House represents the rebuilt lower end of a Medieval house, which was remodeled and extended in the mid to late 19th century. The adjoining high end of the house, known as Paulet House, is separately listed. The lower end was rebuilt to serve as the service end of the Victorian house, which has since been divided into two separate houses, both of which are now listed.
The exterior of the house has two storeys and a four-bay east front, showcasing large sash windows with cambered heads and margin glazing bars. The right-hand bay is part of Paulet House, while a large late 20th-century addition is located on the left side.
Inside, there is a Victorian staircase featuring stick balusters, a moulded mahogany handrail, and turned newels.
