The Granary, 20 Metres East Of Godminster Manor

The Granary, located 20 metres east of Godminster Manor, is an 18th-century granary constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring Doulting stone dressings and a plain clay tile roof with plain gables. The building has a rectangular plan and is supported by 12-brick piers with stone padstones, spanned by segmental gauged brick arches. There is a brick dentil eaves course along the flanks. Access is provided by single stone steps leading to a plain boarded door on the south side, accompanied by an early timber-framed window with leaded lights and one iron-framed window that opens, both set under gauged brick flat arches. A similar window is found on the north side. On the east and west flanks, there are three top-hung flap doors with timber lintels. This granary was almost certainly built while the farm was part of the Ilchester Estate, and 18th-century brickwork is relatively rare in this area of the county.
