Description
The Mill is a former millhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century and remodelled in the early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble and features a stone-coped slate roof with brick ridge and end stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan with a three-unit front range, a rear outshut, and an outbuilding to the rear left. It stands two storeys high and has a three-window range. The windows are early 19th-century three-light casements with iron opening lights and original turnbuckles, set under timber lintels above 20th-century plank and panelled doors. There is a 19th-century plank door leading to the rear outshut, which includes a stack. The outbuilding, likely a former stable with a loft, also has timber lintels over its plank loft and ground-floor doors. Inside, the property features early 19th-century partitions, joinery, and roof structure, along with 17th-century moulded ground floor beams. The Mill is marked on an 1782 map and is linked to a flour mill on the site; the altered mill shed to the east, which is not included in this listing, has a datestone with the initials E & A S, indicating the Symonds family's association with the site since the late 17th century.
