Description

Wayside Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located at the end of a row in Dowlish Wake village. It is constructed from cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings and features a thatched roof with a coped gable that continues to the north. The cottage has a brick chimney stack and is a single-storey building with an attic, comprising two bays.

In the first bay, there is a hollow-chamfered mullioned window with five lights set within a chamfered recess, which has a label above it. The second bay contains a two-light chamfer-mullioned window, which appears to be a 20th-century addition, along with a recessed doorway to the right that features a 20th-century door and sidelight beneath a timber lintel. The attic includes a three-light small-pane casement window set into a swept thatched dormer.

The south gable displays two circular windows, with the attic window having a hood mould. There is also a gable entry that features a 20th-century stone and tiled lean-to porch. The interior has not been inspected. Brookside Cottage, which is attached to the north side, is not considered of special interest.
