Description
This description covers a pair of headstones located in the churchyard immediately east of the chancel of the Church of St Andrew.
The first headstone, known as the Flood monument, dates from the 19th century and is made of Ham stone. It measures approximately 900mm by 1200mm and is 100mm thick, featuring a chamfered back and a segmental-arched top. The design includes two semi-circular arched panels, topped with an Adamesque urn flanked by an hourglass and a heart, all under scrolls. This monument commemorates John, the son of Matthew and Joan Flood, who died in 1812.
The second headstone, referred to as the Jude monument, is from the 18th century and is also made of Ham stone. It measures about 1000mm by 1200mm and is 120mm thick, with a chamfered back. Its shaped top features two angel heads in semi-circular recesses, along with a central hourglass in an oval recess. The border is decorated, and there is a part centre-drop. The first inscription on this monument has been lost, but the second commemorates Joan, the wife of Andrue Jude Junior, who died in 176.
