Description
Radstock Lodges, consisting of two lodges (one divided into two dwellings), gate piers, and gates, are located at the driveway entrance to Ammerdown House. They date from the early 19th century. Lodge No. 3, situated to the left, is rendered with a slate roof and features end gables with moulded stone copings in a Tudor style. It is two storeys high with a driveway front that has two bays, showcasing moulded two-light stone-mullioned windows with drips. The end elevation facing the public highway includes a two-light stone-mullioned window on the first floor and a four-light canted bay on the ground floor, along with a lozenge-shaped panel on the gable face. The central door opening on the driveway front has a label formed by the continuation of the window drips, a panelled door, and an upper part that is glazed.
Lodges Nos. 1 and 2, located to the right, are constructed of random rubble with a hipped slate roof, concrete tiles at the rear, and brick stacks, reflecting a Cottage Ornée style. They are also two storeys high, with a driveway front of three bays featuring two-light casements, each light set in a pointed-headed reveal, and a similar single-light window in the centre of the first floor. The central door opening is a pointed arch with a plank door, and there is a second door opening on the left return.
Between the lodges are double gate piers made of ashlar with plain caps, square in plan. The inner pair of piers features rampant bronze lions holding heraldic shields, while the outer pair is of lesser height and topped with Grecian urns. The ornamental outer pedestrian gates are made of wrought iron, although the centre gates are missing.
