Manor Farmhouse and Gateway About 30 Metres South

Manor Farmhouse, dated 1861, is a detached farmhouse designed by R H Shout for the Ilchester estate. It is constructed from ham stone ashlar with lighter stone bands and features hipped Welsh slate roofs with heavy moulded stone hip and ridge pieces, along with stone chimney stacks. The building is designed in a style reminiscent of the 16th century and has an H-plan layout, standing two storeys high with an attic and three bays.

The façade includes a plinth and eaves coving, with thin chamfered mullioned windows set in chamfered recesses that lack labels. The lower outer bays feature four-light windows with transoms, topped by segmental relieving arches, while above are three-light flat oriel windows with false gables, coped with quatrefoil vent panels and pinnacles. The recessed central bay has a five-light panel across the entire bay, of which three panels are actual windows. All windows are honeycombed 'leaded', possibly using cast iron units.

The lower central bay contains a four-centre arched doorway spanning three bays of panel, complete with carved spandrels, sidelights, and five toplights. Above the doorway is another false gable with a larger pinnacle and a circular vent featuring a crown with an 'I'. The interior has not been examined but is reportedly little changed.

About 30 metres south of the farmhouse is a low boundary wall with four gate piers linked by carved sweeps. The piers are square with bell hip caps, and there is a similar wing wall and piers attached to the southeast corner of the house, enhancing the overall setting. This farmhouse is part of a mid-19th century model farm layout, which is illustrated in an architect's projection drawing, a copy of which is located in the house. The farm buildings to the west have been significantly altered, with important parts having been demolished.
