Description
The Martock Fire Station, located on Church Street, is a former outbuilding, possibly a coachhouse, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed from Ham stone ashlar and features an asbestos cement slate roof with coped gables and gabletted finials. The building is single-storey with an attic and consists of three bays. The east elevation includes two cruciform windows with beaded architrave surrounds and plain inserts, along with a wide central doorway that has been blocked with brickwork. The south gable features a two-light mullioned and transomed window with ovolo-moulding, and below it are 20th-century garage doors. The interior has not been seen. The fire station is aligned with the Manor Farmhouse and is part of a larger formal layout associated with the Manor House. It was acquired in 1930 to house the first motor fire engine, as previous engines were stored under the Market House.
