Description
The Mill is a silk mill that has been converted into two dwellings. It was built around 1800 and underwent conversion in the mid-20th century. The structure is made of red sandstone random rubble with brick dressings and features a slate roof, along with rendered stacks located off the ridge to the right of center. The building is two stories tall and has a three-bay by three-bay by three-bay layout.
On the first floor, there are 20th-century two-light wooden casements set under segmental brick relieving arches, with six bays on the right and two bays on the left featuring leaded two-light openings under wooden lintels. There is also a loft opening, a studded plank door, and a blocked opening to the right. The ground floor includes a square-headed opening below the loft door, a gabled slate-roofed porch, and three-light casements flanking a two-light window. To the right, there is a similar gabled porch with 20th-century French windows and a three-light casement beyond.
It is noted that the building was reputedly three stories high when it was originally constructed. The silk throwing industry in Milverton lasted only about 30 years, starting in 1800. The building is primarily listed for its historical significance.
