Description
Burrow Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with alterations likely made in the 17th century and modern updates. The exterior is rendered over local stone and features a slate roof with three rendered chimneys at the center and brick gable end chimneys, the right one being early. The building has a three-cell cross passage plan and is two storeys high with four windows, which are modern casements. There is a raking buttress to the left center and a 20th-century gabled porch to the right of center.
Inside, the cross passage is located behind a large stack. The hall features a plank and muntin screen with an arched doorway and a hollow-chamfered beam, which shows signs of a spine beam that was likely removed when the floor was altered in the 17th century. The inner room also has a hollow-chamfered beam, while the kitchen has a chamfered beam with a pyramid stop. The roof over the central first-floor room has a plastered and whitewashed underside, and a timber frame wattle and daub partition extends above the hall screen, with the principals believed to be upper crucks.
