Description
Tuck's Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has now become a barn and is in an advanced state of dereliction. It dates from the late 16th century, with an addition likely from the 17th century. The building is constructed of rendered cob and features a steeply pitched corrugated iron roof, with a stone stack located to the right.
The layout includes an open hall house with a cross passage, a kitchen to the right, and a bacon chamber that projects from the east end gable. There is a fireplace on the right-hand wall of the cross passage, and the hall is open to the ceiling, consisting of three bays. At the west end, there is a barn addition, and an outshut is located at the rear. The farmhouse has two storeys, with two window openings on the first floor and one ground floor opening to the right of the entrance, all of which are in a decayed condition. The entrance features a plank door, and there is access to the barn on the right.
Inside, the area to the right of the cross passage is not accessible due to a collapsed roof, but there is evidence of a plank and muntin screen. The hall contains three pairs of jointed crucks, which are reputed to show signs of smoke blackening, although they are now partially collapsed. The roof is supported by what is referred to as The Hand of God, according to an unpublished report from February 1973.
