Description
The remains of a roadside cross, dating from the early 15th century, are located at NGR ST0883642900 in Doniford, Williton. This cross is made of red sandstone and features a squared socket with a broken shaft that has eroded over time, now appearing circular in shape and standing approximately 800 mm high.
Historian Pooley noted that the cross was originally situated close to a toll-gate and was erected over a stream that ran through its arched basement, describing it as a notable example of the rare "water crosses." Since that time, the stream has been embanked, and the cross, which now only consists of the shaft and socket, has been relocated about one metre to the grass verge.
