WHITELACKINGTON CP - ST3715 7/135 Chaffey and Wood monuments in churchyard, about 18 metres north - of chancel, Church of St Mary the Virgin

Pair of chest tombs. C18. (a) the more easterly, the Chaffey monument. Ham stone. Base buried; one fielded panel to each face, with single-panel pilasters to flanks; plain frieze; moulded coving to steeply hipped top with rounded leading edges. Commemorates members of the Chaffey family who died in late C17 and early C18. (b) The good monument. Ham stone. Base buried; one panel with wave-mould frame to each face, with slight centre-drop and fluted pilasters to flanks; moulded coving to hipped top with rounded leading edges. Commemorates Mary Wood, died 1738.
