Description

The pool with fountain is located in the north garden, approximately 60 metres north-north-west of Montacute House. It was designed in 1894 by R.S. Balfour and is situated on or near the site of a 16th-century pond. The structure is made of Ham stone ashlar and features a Greek cross plan with convex quarter-circles at the corners. The pool is surrounded by a low plinth, which is topped with turned balusters and moulded coping, standing about 800mm high. The eight principal corners are marked by piers with obelisk finials. The fountain consists of a simple spout.
