Description
Manor Farm House is a manor house built in 1630, with earlier and later additions. It is constructed of Ham stone ashlar, with extensions made of coursed rubble and Mudford brick. The roof features concrete imitation stone slates, which were installed after fire damage around 1915, and there are stone chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and an attic, with the south front consisting of four bays and a one-bay extension to the first bay. It features 6+2-light hollow chamfer mullioned windows, a corbelled attic gable with 4-light windows, and ball finials at the top and ends of the coping. Bays two and four have 4-light hollow chamfer windows, while bay three has a 3-light window above a rebuilt doorway. The doorway has a boarded door with an architrave and a flat moulded hood supported by console brackets, and there is a cuboid sundial above it, similar to one found at St Mary's Church in Mudford. The door knocker, which has been removed, was dated 1730. There is also a two-storey brick extension in English bond with a 4-light mullioned window, and a later extension made of squared rubble at the rear. The house is situated on the site of a cell used by monks from Montacute Abbey and was developed into a house in 1630 by John Harbin. At one time, the grounds included a Courthouse.
