Description

NYNEHEAD CP ST12SW CHIPLEY PARK 4/59 Barn, about 50 ma north of Chipley Park (formerly listed as Barn North of Chipley House) 18.1.73 GV II Aisled barn, including loft over stables at south end. Possibly C16, aisles rebuilt with brick walls, late C19 south gable end rebuilt in brick, late C20 external alterations and reroofed with corrugated iron. Timber framed barn cased in red brick, south gable end brick, north gable end brick and timber frame, hipped corrugated iron roof. Plan: 7 bay aisled barn, bays of varying lengths, in all 100' x 40'; land slopes away steeply at south end with loft over stables inserted in end bay. Exterior obscured by ivy at time of survey (February 1985) and only partially seen. King post roof, aisle posts set in concrete balks, arch braced tie beams, centre and end bays with single row of wind braces;timber framed sixth truss at south end with loft beyond double entrance in second and sixth bays said to have been rebuilt without porches.
