Description
This is an aisled barn located in Wattisham, dating from the early 18th century, with later alterations and additions from the late 19th century and mid to late 20th century. The barn features timber framing with tarred weatherboard cladding set on a tarred brick plinth, topped with an asbestos cement roof and consisting of five bays.
On the west side, there are central double doors under a canopy, which is partly covered in corrugated iron. The south end has a large central board door that appears to have been reduced in size, with a hatch to the right. Above this door is a loft door, also with an opening to the right. The east side has a wider aisle to the south, while the north end includes a large late 20th-century lean-to addition.
Inside, the barn retains its timber framing with jowled posts, featuring arched and straight braces to the aisle plate and cross beams. Some braces have been removed, and others have been replaced with knee braces. The roof structure consists of a single purlin common rafter system with arch braces, although some rafters and braces have been renewed or are missing.
