Description
40 and 42 Castle Corner are attached houses that are part of a row, dating from the 17th century and restored in the late 19th century. They are constructed of random rubble, with pantiles on the left side and triple-Roman tiles on the right. There are three brick ridge stacks. Number 40 has a two-storey structure with an attic and features three bays, including a pair of two-storey flat-roofed canted bay windows on each side. It has four-pane sash windows at the front and narrower two-pane sash windows on the sides. The centre of the first floor has a two-light moulded stone mullioned window. The central door opening is framed by an ogee-moulded stone surround with a semi-circular stone hood supported by moulded stone brackets, and it has a 20th-century four-panelled door. Number 42 is also two storeys with an attic and has two bays, featuring four-pane sash windows in block surrounds. Its door opening has a similar surround and contains a six-panelled door with a transom light.
