Description
The Cogan family chest tomb, located in the churchyard about 8 metres south of the south aisle of the Church of St Mary, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It features a conglomerate top and Portland stone with lias panels. The tomb has a ledger topped fluted frieze with circular insets and a moulded plinth. All faces are inscribed with names of members of the Cogan family, with the earliest dedication on the fourth face to Thomas Cogan and his son, also named Thomas, who died in 1788 and 1779 respectively. There are remains of a plinth supporting railings on the north side.
